To achieve climate goals, we must accelerate the deployment of renewable energy across multiple sources. Solar power is rapidly becoming a cornerstone of the global renewable energy mix, complementing hydropower and wind power.

Solar power is currently the fastest-growing energy source globally, and is an increasingly important component of modern energy systems. It is a mature and reliable technology that requires relatively little space to generate electricity. Solar installations can be placed close to where energy is consumed: on buildings, in industrial areas, and along roads and railways. This enables local power generation and reduces the need for long-distance transmission. Surplus energy can be stored using a range of batteries and other storage solutions.

Our experts support projects throughout all phases, ensuring cost-effective, safe, and reliable installations that deliver efficient operation and long service life. We offer multidisciplinary expertise across all areas connected to solar power, including structural and geotechnical engineering, electrical power systems, automation, fire safety, HSE, batteries and energy storage solutions.

By being at the forefront and participating in the most innovative projects, we help develop new ideas and solutions for solar power for our customers both nationally and internationally.

  • For commercial and industrial buildings, we provide structural load analysis, electrical safety assessments, and integration with existing building technical systems. Within building-integrated PV systems (BIPV), we have leading advisors, including a PhD in facade-integrated solar panels. These materials can both replace the conventional facade material and produce electricity.

  • We assist developers with utility-scale projects, both on land and on water. Our range of projects consist of all phases of the projects both in Norway and internationally. Our scope can include screening and early phase assessments of an area, profitability calculations, assessment of solar power potential, design, engineering, impact assessments, license applications, geotechnical assessments, solution design, project management, and other considerations.

  • Solar power generates electricity only when there is sufficient sunlight, and surplus production is often exported to the grid. Combining local energy production with on-site batteries and other energy storage can therefore be both a technically robust and economically attractive solution. Where buildings or areas are equipped with local energy storage, whether electrical or thermal, solar energy can be stored and utilised later when demand is higher.

Energy storage is particularly valuable in areas with limited grid capacity or in local energy systems that rely on batteries to ensure stable and continuous operation. Multiconsult has extensive expertise in energy storage systems and battery technologies, covering planning, design, and integration into existing and new energy systems both in Norway and abroad.

  • A holistic approach to energy planning is essential, whether for individual buildings or larger areas. To provide sound advice on optimal system design, it is necessary to consider the full range of interacting solutions such as local energy production, charging infrastructure, energy storage, and load shifting.

Well-designed local energy systems can also deliver flexibility services to the electricity grid, improving both system performance and project profitability. Through smart grid solutions and integrated energy planning, we help clients develop efficient, future-proof energy systems for a wide range of projects.
